File for a service member without taking over their session

Spouses, parents, and authorized helpers can submit leave, retirement, redeployment, care packs, and call cards as a guest. You attach the soldier unique code on each form. You never need the soldier password, and you never log them out.

Who this is for

Most filings on Military Unit Portal are started by the people who already handle a household’s paperwork: a spouse, a parent, an adult child, or a designated helper. The portal is built so that work can happen on a shared computer without swapping accounts.

Guest access stores your name and email in the browser session. Every request still has to name a soldier unique code so the desk can match rank, unit, and next of kin on the record.

Guests file from home. The soldier unique code goes on the form — the password does not.

What you do, step by step

  • Open Soldier access and choose Continue as guest. Save the name and email you want receipts sent to.
  • Look up the soldier unique code on the form (or type it if you already have it). Confirm the name, rank, and unit match the person you are helping.
  • Complete the leave, retirement, redeployment, or catalog order. Pay with a method the administrator posted.
  • Keep the confirmation email. Track with the reference plus that same email. Status is never shown by reference alone.

Need the live form? Current fees, durations, and catalog items are on Services. Amounts on the form are the amounts that apply.

What you should not do

  • Do not ask the soldier to share their portal password in a text thread or group chat.
  • Do not impersonate the service member on Soldier access. Guest filings are a first-class path.
  • Do not paste unique codes into public social comments or unverified “helpers.”

Questions on this topic

What is Military Unit Portal and what can I do here?

Military Unit Portal is a personnel support desk for U.S. service members and authorized family. From one account session you can file paid military leave (fifteen categories), retirement, redeployment, and service-dog adoption; order care packs and call cards; attach a soldier unique code so the request is tied to the correct record; and track status with the reference emailed after you submit. Administrators review identity, payment proof, and the packet before a status change is mailed. About the portal

Who is allowed to use the portal?

Service members who have been issued a soldier unique code and portal password can sign in to the personnel workspace. A spouse, parent, child, sibling, or other authorized family member may continue as a guest or create a family account. Every filing still requires a valid unique code so the packet is attached to the right soldier. Do not file in someone else’s name without authority to act for that member.

What is the difference between the public site and the soldier workspace?

The public site uses the same top navigation as the homepage: services, track, how it works, help, and contact. After a soldier signs in with unique code and password, the layout switches to a personnel sidebar with the bio, awards, current and last team, leave history, My requests, and paid services. Guest family stays on the public menu. Signing in as a soldier never logs a guest out of a different browser, and a guest session never replaces soldier sign-in on a shared computer. How it works

Do I need a family account, or can I stay a guest?

A family account is optional. Guests enter name, email, and phone once, then put the soldier unique code on each form. Status still goes only to the email on that request. Create a family login if you want a saved profile across visits. Soldiers should still use Soldier access, not the family register form, because the personnel file is bound to the unique code. Continue as guest

What should I have ready before I start a filing?

Have a recent face photo, tax identification for the person filing, a reachable email you will check, and the payment method you will use. A government photo ID (passport, military ID/CAC, driver license, or national ID) is required on retirement, redeployment, adoption, shop, and flights. On a leave filing, if the filer has no government photo ID they may declare that and still reserve the packet. Leave, retirement, and redeployment also need the soldier unique code. Service-dog adoption does not. Leave packets also need travel dates, duration, and destination. Retirement needs service and forwarding-address details. Redeployment needs assignment and dependent information if family will relocate. Service-dog adoption needs a cleared dog (age 2+ and fit), a 1,000–30,000 character personality, and a placement address.
